Carterville Girls 15th at State

Carterville Girls 15th at State

The Carterville girls cross country team headed to Detweiller Park in Peoria to compete in the IHSA 2A State XC meet this past Saturday. They finished with a top 15 finish, out of 29 teams from across the state. They were just 6 points away from finishing 12th, and would have knocked off 3 big schools from Crystal Lake Central, Waterloo, and Grayslake Central.

Carterville Girls and Boys Compete at Sectionals

The Carterville girls punched their ticket to the State Cross Country meet in Peoria this upcoming weekend after a stellar performance at the Olney 2A Sectional. Carterville placed 3rd overall, falling only to top ranked Chatham Glenwood and Rochester. Molly Robertson raced to a 2nd place finish in 18:03 for the 3 mile course, followed by teammates Lyla Seaman in 20th place (19:03) and Laney Sambursky in 28th place (19:23). Carterville’s final 2 scoring runners, Dani Williamson and Marcela Wood, had to maneuver around runners throughout the race to cross the finish line in 56th (20:18) and 71st (20:44) place respectively. Lillian Carsrud (21:26) and Liesel Balmforth (22:10) also competed for the Lions, both setting PR’s for themselves in the process. There were 138 total runners.

Carterville Cross Country Teams Shine at IHSA 2A Regional Meet

The Carterville High School cross country teams turned in impressive performances at the IHSA 2A Regional meet held in Carbondale at the SIU cross country course on Saturday. In the 5,000m race, the Lady Lions took second place behind Waterloo, while the boys' team secured sixth place, with both teams earning a ticket into the IHSA Sectional meet in Olney this weekend.

In an impressive display of grit and determination, the Carterville Girls Cross Country team secured their second consecutive Southern Illinois River-to-River (SIRR) Ohio Division Cross Country Conference title. The championship meet saw Carterville edge out Murphysboro by a narrow margin of just 4 points.
