Carbondale, IL — The Carterville High School cross country teams turned in impressive performances at the IHSA 2A Regional meet held in Carbondale at the SIU cross country course on Saturday. In the 5,000m race, the Lady Lions took second place behind Waterloo, while the boys' team secured sixth place, with both teams earning a ticket into the IHSA Sectional meet in Olney this weekend. In the women's race, Carterville finished with 50 points, just 7 points behind Waterloo's 43. Molly Robertson led the Lady Lions, crossing the finish line in 18:38, mere seconds behind winner Cameron Crump of Waterloo. Robertson ran neck-and-neck with Crump throughout the entire race. Lyla Seaman (6th, 19:47) and Laney Sambursky (8th, 20:10) also delivered standout performances. However, Waterloo's depth proved decisive, as three of their runners edged out Carterville's Dani Williamson (21st, 21:18) and Marcela Wood (22nd, 21:24), finishing just seconds ahead of them. Rounding out Carterville's team were Lillian Carsrud (34th, 22:53) and Landry Crain (51st, 23:52). The men's race saw Carterville take sixth place out of 11 teams. Marion’s Gabriel and Raphael Greer dominated the field, finishing first and second with times of 15:28 and 15:29, respectively. August Anderson paced the Lions with a 17th-place finish in 16:53, with teammate James Samples just seconds later in 20th-place in 16:58. Carterville’s final 3 scoring runners were in a pack close behind with Reece Scott (30th, 17:12), Rowan Beyke (39th, 17:26), and Mason Webb (40th, 17:33) contributing to Carterville's team score. Nick Korte (58th, 18:41) and Jack Robertson (63rd, 19:11) also competed for the Lions. Marion won the men's team title, followed by Mt. Vernon, Mascoutah, Herrin, Waterloo, and Carterville.
