DuQuoin, IL — In an impressive display of grit and determination, the Carterville Girls Cross Country team secured their second consecutive Southern Illinois River-to-River (SIRR) Ohio Division Cross Country Conference title. The championship meet saw Carterville edge out Murphysboro by a narrow margin of just 4 points. The Lions' dominance was fueled by their top five scoring runners, who finished in the top 10 places of the race. Five Carterville athletes earned All-Conference honors for their outstanding individual performances: • Molly Robertson • Lyla Seaman • Laney Sambursky • Marcela Wood • Dani Williamson Lillian Carsrud and Landry Crain also contributed to the team's success with their strong efforts in the race. Carterville outpaced a competitive field that included Herrin, Harrisburg, and Massac County, as well as runner-up Murphysboro. For the boys conference race, August Anderson led the Carterville Lions and captured the individual conference champion title for the Ohio Division. Anderson's blistering time of 15:46 left his competition in the dust, securing a 13-second victory over 2nd place, Herrin's Braden Davis. Anderson's standout performance highlighted an exceptional day for the Lions, but it wasn’t quite enough to get them the win as the Lions ultimately finished second behind the Herrin Tigers. In addition to Anderson's first-place finish which landed him on the All-Conference team, two other Carterville athletes made the All-Conference team as well: • Reece Scott, 6th place • James Samples, 8th place Mason Webb and Rowan Beyke rounded out the top five scorers for Carterville, while Nick Korte and Nick Wilhelm also contributed to the team's effort. The Lions will begin post season action this Saturday at Carbondale for the Regional race.
