Best Defensive Game So Far

Wednesday night was the best team effort the lady jackets have given so far this season. Maybe it was a trip on the blue activity bus fueled with candy salad. Or maybe it was the heads up, seven up, team bonding to pass the time while arriving to North Farmington a little bit too early. Whichever it was the girls played tough as a unit!

Resilient Lady Jackets Finish Strong

The lady jackets coming off two tough games, with their 3rd in a row this Monday evening, struggled to find their groove. Rochester took an early lead getting the 10 goal running clock lead in the first half. The jackets were struggling in many areas but at the half the coaches were most upset about getting out hustled in the ground ball game. After the half the rally started at the defensive end. Ahtziri Fernandez and Melanie Flores have been working hard to bring their new teammates up to speed on defense. Freshman Scotland Hopkins has learned so quickly! She had a caused turnover, and a few ground balls, leading to a strong full field cradle that lit a fire across the team and sideline. Tiffani Daniels made a return to the net for the first time this year, greatly improving on her skills from last year. Trenitee Carroll finished the final quarter making a few crucial saves to keep the Falcons under 20 points. The ground ball game improved with the jackets leading the ground ball count in the second half. And special shout-out to Yareli Hernandez-Lopez and Caley Gracey for playing a new position where the team needed them! In the final minutes of the game Hailey Marcum tagged a draw control to a drive and her first goal of the season. Not a minute later Alissa Nalou followed suit coming up with a draw control to goal. With the strong ending the lady jackets showed their perseverance and Sisu! The girls are fired up and ready to travel to North Farmington Wednesday, see you there at 6pm!

Tough Night Against Waterford

The lady jackets had to turn around and play again after their loss yesterday. This time facing Waterford United, another team coming off a tough loss days before. Both teams started the game ready to show they were more than their previous losses, however after some calls not in favor of the lady jackets, the girls lost some spirit. This fired up several new players with Scotland Hopkins showing up again as a rookie defender with several well fought ground balls. After a wake up call from the coaches at half, the girls showed up well in the third quarter. Led by words of encouragement and spirit from returners Kiara Hammond and Kaylin Seale. Hailey Marcum and Legend Henry after taking some hits all game, figured out their draw plan, coming up with several ground balls and draw controls to start the new half. New goalies Trenitee Carroll and Caley Gracey both showed great improvement in the net, recovering from missed stops and finding their mental toughness. Desarae Flentroy also had a spirited ending to the game finding her footing in the midfield and playing some great ball pressure defense. Ultimately the lady jackets fell 17-0 to Waterford, and have the weekend to shake it off before facing Rochester at home Monday at 5pm. Time for us to show you the meaning of our motto 'Sisu' and we hope to see you there!

An Improvement Against the Technicians

The girls improved on their score against Cass Tech from last year! Cass tech is a strong, quickly growing program, with several players that play travel lacrosse. We hung with them the first quarter and put two goals on the board. Legend Henry scored 1, followed by Alissa Nalou with her first goal! Our new players got their nerves out making their first lacrosse debut, and even gaining possession of the ball a few times. Trenitee Carroll and Caley Gracey each played a half in the net, each making several great saves against some of the best opponents. On defense rookie Scotland Hopkins played solid not leaving the field with the guidance of Ahtziri Fernandez. Midfielders Kiara Hammond, Hailey Marcum, Legend Henry, and Emily Yeokum all stepped up to play some low defense where the team needed them. We have a lot of growing to do but the girls are eager to keep working hard and improving! Next game is tomorrow 5pm at home versus the Kettering Captains.
