Mountaineers Advance to Central Mass Final

Nate Roy drove in the winning run with a two-out single in the top of the seventh to send the third-seeded Mountaineers (10-8) past the second-seed Knights (9-9) in a Central Mass Class A Semifinal at Tivnan Field at Lake Park. With the game tied 1-1 and two outs and no one on in the seventh, Caden Lane coaxed a walk, advanced to second and scored on Roy’s line drive single to left. St. Paul scored its only run four pitches into the bottom of the first following an Evan Walden double and a Jake LeFrancois single while the Mountaineers leveled the game in the fourth on a Sam Perry sacrifice fly. Wachusett starter Will McGrail settled in after the rocky start and yielded just two hits and did not allow a run over the next 6 2/3 innings before Brady Hughes closed the door with a strikeout to end the game. St. Paul starter Jake LeFrancois struck out seven and allowed just one earned run in a complete game effort and Walen was the game’s only repeat hitter. The Mountaineers, who had lost to the St. Peter Marian/St. Paul in their last three Central Mass meetings, will face the winner of tonight’s other semifinal between top-seeded Leominster and fourth-seeded Tantasqua back at Lake Park either Wednesday or Thursday.

Pitchers Duel Leads to Tantsaqua Victory

Ryan Blake dumped a two-out, two-run single down the right field line in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Warriors (13-4) past the Mountaineers (9-8) in Fiskdale. Tantasqua starter Miles Blake outdueled Wachusett hurler Nate Roy, fanning 12 and allowing just two hits and one run in a complete game effort while Roy yielded just five hits and two earned run and striking out five in 5 2/3 innings of work. Petey Casine was 2-for-3 for the Warriors and Kyle Frederick and Shea Whalen accounted for the Mountaineers’ base hits.

Mountaineers show up at Doyle with a Bang!

Emilio Silva-Rosa smacked a two-run home run and an RBI double and Ethan Divito belted a three-run homer as the Mountaineers (9-7, 5-3 Mid Wach A) snapped the Blue Devils (12-2, 7-1) 12-game winning streak and denied the hosts an undefeated Mid Wach A season with a 6-4 victory in Leominster. Starting pitcher Matt Moreno did not allow an earned run over four innings for Wachusett while Brady Hughes pitched the final three innings to earn his first career save. Sam Perry was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs for the Mountaineers.

Mountaineers take care of business

Travis Laidlaw notched a pair of RBI singles and scored a run and Matt Moreno tossed a four-hit complete game as the Mountioneers (4-5, 2-3 Mid Wach A) knocked off the Rangers (4-7, 2-2) in Holden. Ben Domineck was 2-for-3 for Wachusett with a run scored and an RBI.
