A tough loss for the bearcats, but a special shoutout to Vlad and Marcus for securing pins for San Mateo against Carlmont. Vlad’s win being extra special as it was his senior night. Despite the loss, we still celebrated our 5 seniors: Vlad, Jacob, Juan, Niels, and Adamary.
Mateo High School’s wrestling team secured a resounding victory over Hillsdale with a final score for the boys of 52-12. Every match on the mat resulted in triumphs for San Mateo, showcasing their exceptional skill and strategic prowess. The star-studded lineup executed flawless techniques, leaving Hillsdale with no room for a comeback. Hillsdale’s only points came from forfeits, emphasizing San Mateo’s unwavering control throughout the meet. This commanding performance cements San Mateo as a force to be reckoned with in high school wrestling, with their collective effort and determination promising a formidable season ahead.
Boys varsity wins! Our duel started off with an impressive pin from Vlad giving the bearcats 6 points following a couple [6 point] forfeits in favor of the bearcats. Shane went on to earn San Mateo another 6 points by also getting a pin against Terra Nova. Niels was next on the mat, but ultimately getting pinned by the tigers. Ian went out and brought the momentum back up as he secured another pin for San Mateo. Another forfeit followed in favor of SM before Emerson went and took the mat for the final varsity boys match of the evening. Emerson unfortunately got pinned but the bearcats still walked away with the win.
We took a lone bearcat to the Jim Root tournament! Due to injuries on the varsity lineup, we only brought Niels Voss this weekend. While we didn’t come home with any hardware, Niels wrestled tough! Only losing to the champion and consolation champion of his bracket, ultimately ending his day losing in the consolation semi finals.
