Mission Rebounds With A Big Win
Chatsworth, CA — After losing last week to Long Beach Poly and dropping back one spot in the California rankings (#5) and six spots in the National rankings (#41); Mission responded with a big 41-0 win over Sierra Canyon School. Mission’s stellar defense started on the very first drive with a 3 and out stop allowing the offense to score early and often. The Diablos came out hot, putting up 21 points in the first quarter alone. Quarterback, team Captain, and Ball State commit, Kadin Semonza led the way with a 5-yard touchdown pass to KJ Reed, and two rushing touchdowns (one for 20 yards and another for 5 yards). Kicker Michael Salgado’s 30-yard field goal closed out the half with a 24-0 lead. The second half was more of the same from Mission smothering defense led by Travis Anderson’s 2 interceptions and Mikey D’Amato’s big plays! Sierra Canyon’s only true opportunity to put points on the board came at the beginning of the fourth quarter with an attempted field goal which was blocked by standout wide receiver and team captain, Mikey Matthews and returned by two-time defensive player of the week, Travis Anderson, for a 80-yard touchdown. The Diablos finished the game with a 41-0 shutout on the road! Tonight, Mission was dominant in all three phases of the game and reminded their fans why they are one of the best High School Football Teams in the state. Mission returns home next week with a good matchup against Alemany High School, in the annual Mission’s Armed Forces night honoring all Armed Forces.
