Recap
Aliso Viejo, CA — Frosh / Soph improved 200% getting 4 sets this time vs only 2 sets back in September; and we were a tie-breaker away from getting a 5th set win.
To put this in perspective, Aliso Niguel’s Varsity team is in CIF Division 1, and most likely will end up in the Open Division by playoff time. This means they are one of the top 6-8 teams in Southern California. When schools have that strong of Varsity teams, their JV teams are usually very strong as well, as evidenced by our 0-18 drubbing (JV loss) mid-September.
All that to say, I am very pleased with our FS efforts and result this afternoon. Iron sharpens iron, and you can’t pay better people to get on a court with you.
Getting a rare opportunity to play singles today, a HUGE SHOUT OUT to our top MVP of the day, Neeka Barkhordar, who was the only Lioness to win 2 sets today - great job.
Neeka played 3 long sets of singles on a very hot afternoon.
Kudos to MVP’s Abby Godber and Bryanna Noorian who defeated the Wolverines top doubles team in the opening round, and came close to beating the #2 team, 6-7 in a very well played match.
And last, but certainly not least, MVP status goes out to Viana Poggi and Lucca Lutz who upset Aliso’s top doubles team in the 3rd round: 6-4. This was fun to watch. Great win!
“Thank you” to Gia Banks-Meeker who volunteered to play singles today, no sub, 3 straight sets in the heat vs some excellent talent. Nice effort.
