The JSerra Baseball team opened its' Trinity League series with Mater Dei in victorious fashion on Tuesday, as the Lions beat the Monarchs, 5-1, at Mater Dei High.
JSerra improves to 6-5-1 overall and evens their league record at 2-2.
Lions senior Matthew Champion keyed the victory on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings, and allowing only one earned run while striking out six.
Junior Jordan Marian collected two hits, drove in a run, and scored a run.
Senior Dmitri Susidko went 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
Sophomore Takashi Rutherford and junior Noah Meza also each drove in a run for JSerra.
