A wonderful season for the JSerra Girls Water Polo team came up just short of a title on Saturday, as the Lions fell to the Corona del Mar 12-11 in the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game at Mt. San Antonio College. JSerra finishes the season with a record of 19-9. The Lions trailed the Sea Kings 6-2 in the second period, but closed the period scoring four goals in the final , including a buzzer beating shot from nearly 50 meters away from sophomore goalie Sayre Duran to pull within 8-6 at the half. JSerra trailed 11-6 entering the final period, but put forth a stirring rally, outscoring Corona del Mar 5-1. Junior Payton Netherton scored both of her goals in final period, her final score drawing the Lions to within one goal with 17 seconds left. But the Sea Kings held off the Lions to seal the victory. Sophomore Sloane Paulson tallied a team-leading four goals. Sophomore Kamryn McCord added two goals. Senior Zoe Gabriel and junior Mary O’Hara also each produced a goal.
