The undefeated run of the JSerra Boys Lacrosse team came to a halt on Thursday, as Mater Dei handed the Lions their first defeat of the season, 15-5, in a Trinity League game at JSerra Catholic High School.
The Lions are now 13-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
Mater Dei scored the first four goals of the game and led 5-1 after the first period.
Lions senior Jared Referente scored twice in a 3:23 span in the second period to cut the deficit to 6-3, but the Monarchs answered with two goals later in the period and took an 8-4 lead into halftime.
The Monarchs scored three times in the third period and four times in the fourth period to put the game away.
Sophomore Mason Stephens tallied two goals, while fellow sophomore Asher Stevenson scored a goal for the Lions.
