The JSerra Baseball team knocked the Orange Lutheran Lancers from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 3-0 victory in the finale of their Trinity League opening series Friday evening at JSerra Catholic High.
The Lions (5-5-1, 1-2) snapped a three-game losing streak, while handing the Lancers (10-1) their first loss of the season.
JSerra scored all three of its’ runs in the bottom of the first inning, as RBI singles from sophomores Takashi Rutherford and Marcus Greis (who each had two hits in the game) plated the first two runs of the game.
The Lions added their third and final run of the game on a Lancers’ error.
JSerra’s pitching was stellar throughout the game, as four Lions hurlers held the potent Lancers' lineup to only three hits and combined for eight strikeouts.
Senior Andrew Padova helped headline the strong display on the mound, as he threw 3.2 innings in relief and allowed only one hit, while striking out five.
