The JSerra Girls Basketball team showed the resiliency befitting their newly earned status of CIF champion on Tuesday, as the Lions outlasted the Lakewood Lancers 60-56 in overtime in the first round of the CIF Division 2 State Championships Tuesday night at Lakewood High.
The Lions improved to 24-9 on the season with the victory.
JSerra will be on the road Thursday night at Harvard-Westlake for a second round game against the Wolverines.
The action was tight throughout the contest, as the two teams were tied at the end of the third quarter (42-42) and the fourth quarter (54-54).
The Lions outscored the Lancers 6-2 in overtime to pull out the victory and advance.
Junior Lindsay Tambwe scored 14 points (7-of-9 from the field) and added seven rebounds.
Freshman Rosie Santos scored 14 points and added six assists and five steals.
Freshman Eden Hoff scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
Freshman Katherine Nowak provided a spark off the bench for the Lions, grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds in 17 minutes.
