An impressive second half keyed the JSerra Girls Flag Football team to remain undefeated, as the Lions produced a come-from-behind 20-12 victory over crosstown rival San Juan Hills in their nonleague, home-opener Monday evening at JSerra Catholic High School. The Lions (2-0) trailed the Stallions 12-6 at halftime, but found their rhythm on both sides of the ball after the intermission. Freshman quarterback Ava Van Heerde connected on touchdown passes of 25 yards to sophomore Avery Olson and three yards to sophomore Stella Day to help propel JSerra into the lead. The Lions’ defense was stellar in the second half, shutting out the Stallions to seal the victory. Van Heerde completed 21-of-32 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Seylah Childress provided a big spark to the offense with 133 total yards, including four catches for 101 yards. Olson finished the contest with six receptions for 78 yards. Senior Shea Gonzalez also finished with six receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown.
