Several members of the JSerra Girls Track and Field team took their talents to Walnut this weekend to compete at the 64th annual Mt. SAC Relays. In the Girls 800m invitational race, Lions senior Georgia Jeanneret was involved in another down-to-the wire finish. Jeanneret was second after the first 400m, clocking a 64.20 opening lap 400m opener. Poway senior Tessa Buswell who was third after the first lap, dropped a 65.94 closing lap to narrowly edge Jeanneret at the finish line (2:10.26-2:10.77). Lions sophomore Maya Woolforde turned in two seasonal best efforts, clocking a 56.38 in the 400m invitational race to finish fourth and a wind-legal 25.31 in the rated 200m race to finish seventh. The Lions had a pair of top-12 finishers in the invitational discus competition, as senior Erin Walters (127 feet) and freshman Kai Beary (123 feet, 10 inches) finished ninth and 11th respectively. In the rated pole vault, senior Sophia Chiaverini was one of five vaulters to clear a competition-best 11 feet, two inches, placing fourth overall based on attempts. Sophomore Helena Reuter and senior Bridget Bourdon were among eight vaulters that cleared 10 feet, eight inches. JSerra had three finishers in the top 25 overall amongst a field of 31 runners in two heats in the girls’ mile invitational race. Sophomore Chloe Elbaz clocked a 4:59.20 and had the 14th best time. Sophomore Kaylah Tasser (5:02.28) and junior Brynn Garcia (5:04.88) were 18th and 21st respectively. Ventura junior Sadie Engelhardt broke her own national high school federation mile record with a time of 4:31.72.
