The JSerra Softball team opened Trinity League play with a 9-1 defeat at the hands of Orange Lutheran on Friday afternoon at JSerra Catholic High School. The game was delayed nearly an hour due to lightning, and after the completion of the bottom of the first inning when the delay ended, the Lancers jumped ahead with a four-run rally in the top of the second inning. Orange Lutheran added five runs over the next three innings to seize control of the game. JSerra (8-9) tallied its lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning, when freshman Angie Jimenez blasted a shot over the right center field fence for a solo home run. Senior Kaylee Layfield and junior Reese Ferrel each had two hits and a walk for the Lions.
