The JSerra Baseball team appeared ready to pick up a key Trinity League series victory on Friday, but one tough inning proved costly, as the Santa Margarita Eagles edged the Lions, 3-2 in the final game of their three-game series at JSerra Catholic High School.
After splitting the first two games, JSerra is now 12-8-1 overall and 5-4 in league play.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double to center by sophomore Marcus Greis that scored junior Gavin Flores, who started the inning with a single.
Flores increased JSerra’s advantage to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single to center field, scoring senior Charlie Caruso.
Flores, along with juniors Tyler Dunning and Jordan Marian, each had two hits in the game.
But the Eagles responded in the sixth inning, as a HBP, single, two walks, and another single resulted in three runs that propelled Santa Margarita into a lead that they would not relinquish.
