The JSerra Baseball team's continued success on the mound led to another victory on Thursday afternoon, as the Lions defeated the La Costa Canyon Mavericks, 3-1, on Day 3 of the Boras Baseball Classic at JSerra Catholic High School. JSerra improves to 10-6-1 on the season and has won six of their last seven games. The Lions have allowed one run or fewer in four of those six wins during their hot streak. La Costa Canyon jumped out to 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Lions responded in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, junior Tyler Dunning launched a home run to left to tie the score. Later in the inning, sophomore Marcus Greis added an RBI double to give JSerra a 2-1 lead. Junior Owen Capron ignited a two-out, run-scoring rally in the bottom of the second with a walk. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, to third on a single by sophomore Blake Bowen, then scored on a double steal. Dunning, Bowen, and junior Gavin Flores combined for six of the Lions’ nine hits in the game. Five JSerra pitchers held the Mavericks line-up in check. Junior Max Reimers started and went two innings, allowing one earned run and four hits, while striking out two. Juniors Taylor Easthope, Thomas Gonzales, and Justin Clibon combined for three innings of one-hit relief pitching. Sophomore Corwin Allard pitched the final two innings to earn the save.
