For the second straight Wednesday, the JSerra Baseball team staged another highly impressive late-game comeback, as the Lions rallied from a five-run deficit in the seventh inning for an improbable 8-6 road victory over St. John Bosco High.
The Lions are now 14-9-1 on the season and 6-5 in league play.
One week ago, JSerra rallied from an 8-1 deficit in the fifth inning to stun host Santa Margarita 14-12.
The visiting Lions similarly found themselves in a deep early hole against the Braves, as they trailed 6-0 after two innings.
JSerra produced a run in the fourth on an RBI walk by senior Dmitri Susidko, but could not push across any other runs heading into the top of the seventh inning.
But the Lions’ late game magic struck once again in jaw-dropping fashion.
A bases loaded walk with one out by junior Jordan Marian scored freshman Ayden Coleman, who started the inning with a walk.
After a strikeout, JSerra was down to its final out, but Lions were undaunted.
Junior Gavin Flores doubled to score senior Charlie Caruso and junior Tyler Dunning to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Sophomore Blake Bowen drew the Lions to within one run with an RBI single to score Marian.
Susidko was down to his final strike, but delivered a go-ahead, two-run single to left field to score senior Charlie Jeter and Bowen to give JSerra a 7-6 lead.
Coleman capped the seven-run scoring outburst in the inning with an RBI single.
Sophomore Corwin Allard tossed three scoreless innings in relief to get the victory.
