JSerra freshman Riley Anson moved a big step closer to adding an individual CIF crown to his impressive season ledger with two victories on Wednesday at the CIF-SS Individual Championships at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont. The Trinity League champion began the day with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Palos Verdes sophomore Andrew Nishiguchi in a second round match. Anson squared off with a familiar opponent in the quarterfinals, as he battled Oak Park senior Drew Koval. Anson, who defeated Koval when the schools squared off against each other in the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals on May 8th, overwhelmed him in straight sets by identical scores of 6-2, 6-2. Anson will tangle with Corona del Mar senior and defending champion Niels Hoffman in Thursday's semifinal match. The strong doubles run of junior Brady Schaefgen and sophomore Cade Faul came to an end in the second round, as the pair were defeated by the Peninsula sophomore duo of Colin Bringas and Eddie Feuer in a three-set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-4, 3-10.
