It was a triumphant Opening Day for the JSerra Baseball team.
The two-time defending CIF-SS Division 1 champions kicked off their 2024 campaign with a 7-1 victory over Mira Costa in their first game of the Prep Baseball Spring Invitational Saturday at JSerra High.
The Mustangs scored an unearned run in the first inning, but the Lions answered with two runs in the third and broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning.
Senior Matthew Champion struck out seven and allowed only two hits in five innings.
Senior Charlie Caruso had two hits, scored two runs, and collected an RBI.
Junior Cole Strane also had two hits, drove in a run, and scored a run.
