The JSerra Girls Volleyball team put forth a solid effort on the road Thursday in their season-opener against Sierra Canyon, but the Trailblazers proved to be up to the challenge, rallying to win in four sets 20-25, 25-22, 29-27, 25-21 at Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth. After splitting the first two sets, the Lions and Trailblazers went toe-to-toe in a highly entertaining third set battle. JSerra claimed nine of the first 13 points and eventually held a 24-21 lead. But the Trailblazers dug deep to stave off three consecutive set point opportunities for the Lions and tie the score at 24. Both teams traded set point rallies before Sierra Canyon seized a 2-1 lead. The Lions held an early three-point advantage in the fourth set, but the Trailblazers rallied to a 15-11 lead and the Lions were unable to battle back. Sophomore Katherine Nowak produced a team-high 19 kills, while junior Charlotte Nowak and sophomore Makayla Ziegler each had nine kills.
