The JSerra Girls Flag Football team overcame a tough effort from Warren High to pull out a 16-0 nonleague victory over the Bears at JSerra Catholic High School.
JSerra improves to 9-0 on the season.
The two teams were locked in a scoreless battle until the 6:30 mark of the first half, when Lions freshman quarterback Ava Van Heerde connected with sophomore Kai Beary on a 14-yard touchdown reception.
A successful two-point conversion to sophomore Avery Olson gave the Lions an 8-0 lead that they would take into halftime.
The Lions’ defense was stout throughout, as Beary and fellow sophomore Stella Day each recorded an interception.
Olson put the finishing touches on the Lions’ triumph in spectacular fashion, when she made fantastic catch in the corner of the end zone while getting her feet inbounds with 2:40 left in the game.
Senior Cora Finn added a successful two-point conversion reception for the final points of the game.
Van Heerde finished the game completing 21-of-33 passes for 238 yards.
Olson had a team-high eight receptions for 55 yards, while Beary finished with a team-high 94 receiving yards on five receptions.
Senior Shea Gonzalez also added five receptions for 68 yards.
