The Christopher Jacobi Roundball Club

The Christopher Jacobi Roundball Club is THE support group for the Saginaw Valley State University Men's Basketball team. As a member of the Christopher Jacobi Roundball Club, you can join us in our mission to win championships and graduate student-athletes! Each membership level comes with various gifts but most importantly with our integration of the Blast platform you will receive weekly updates of pictures, videos, scores and recaps to follow along like never before. Along with our Blast platform to make a donation online, our other avenues for gift-giving that include a membership are mailing a check to the SVSU Office, the SVSU Game Day of Giving (Sept 5th), Oppor2nity Day, the Tena Baruth Scholarship Fund, and Sponsorships with your company/business.

About Us

Over the past 40 years, SVSU Men's Basketball Program has historically set high standards and works each year to continue the growth needed to represent our alumni and fans properly. The SVSU tradition has seen our program ranked Nationally as high as #1 (2016-17) as well as placing 44 different Cards on All-Conference teams over the years. We have won several championships during our program's history, including GLIAC Championships in 1980, 1983, 1985, 2016*, and 2022 (South Division) and NAIA/NCAA National Tournament appearances in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1986, and 2016*. As well as the team has done on the court, they have excelled even more in the classroom with a 93% graduation rate during Coach Baruth's tenure; with several players such as Kalen Foreman, Richie Roberts, Fred John Jr, Tyler Witz, and James Toohey earning their Masters degree! Our continued goals of National recognition have resulted in SVSU being represented in the professional ranks with former players like: Mike Zuiderveen (2006-08) Dante Williams (2007-09) Greg Foster (2008-12) Damon Bozeman (2012-16) Kellen Smith (2012-16) Caleb Davis (2013-17) C.J. Turnage (2013-17) Garrett Hall (2013-17) Mike Wells (2015-18) Lachlan Anthony (2017-20) James Toohey (2017-22) Darnell Hoskins Jr (2017-22) Thank you for supporting our efforts to continue our ascent to CONSISTENT national prominence. We have been there before and know what it takes, but maintaining that success year in and year out requires the support from our entire Cardinal Family!! Please consider making a donation to the Christopher Jacobi Roundball Club. _______________________________________________ The Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball program is proud to name the Roundball Club for Christopher Jacobi, who started at point guard for the Cardinals from 1990-1994. Chris, 49, passed away early in the morning on September 5, 2021. He leaves behind his wife, Morgan, and their four children, Titus, Lucy, Livie, and Jack. Paul Abenth, a former teammate of Chris, fondly remembers his friend as a great player, but an even better teammate and person. “Chris was by far the best point guard that I ever played with over the 10 plus years that we played together from middle school all the way through college,” Abenth said. “His court awareness was incredible, and he was always in charge when he had the ball. Chris was a very humble player, and no matter what he accomplished individually his main concern was for the team.” After earning accolades as a highly-regarded athlete at Saginaw’s Heritage High School, Chris finished his Cardinal basketball career as the team’s all-time assists leader with 478. In his final season in 1993-94, he averaged 9.4 points and 3.7 assists in 25 games, starting all contests he appeared in. Chris ended his four seasons at SVSU with 88 made 3-point field goals, the second-most for any Cardinal at the time. He was also a standout on defense, ranking fifth on the SVSU all-time steals list with 154.
