Rebels Kick Off the 2023 Season with a Win
The Rebels worked through a slow start to hold on for the win. The first game jitters were definitely apparent as the Rebels allowed for a late comeback by South Effingham which was aided by several costly turnovers in the final minutes of the game. RJ Chapin led the team in goals netting 3 while Evan Way led the team in points (7) and assists (6). Scoring came from 6 different Rebels on the night. As for faceoffs Ian Johnsen controlled 11 of 17 faceoffs going 65% at the dot. The defense kept the rebels in the game even after some unfortunate turnovers on offense. Harris Goebel lead the defense with 4 forced turnovers and Cooper Nease and Jayden Darwood grabbed 8 and 7 ground balls respectively. Though the effort was enough to secure the win this group has some growing to do with tougher teams headed their way.
