The Norwalk High School baseball team was honored Saturday with a parade celebrating the school’s first CIAC state championship in baseball. The school opened in 1902. The CIAC began running state baseball tournaments in 1938.
As first baseman William Arnold took the throw from catcher Jaden Echevarria on a dropped third strike for the final out of today’s Class LL baseball final, an outpouring of emotion was unleashed on Palmer Field, as a team from a city with a rich tradition in the sport finally got the chance to sit on the state throne.
As players celebrated around them, legendary former Norwalk baseball coach Pete Tucci hugged first-year baseball coach Ryan Mitchell on the third base line of Cubeta Stadium and said “Thank you for keeping the tradition going.”
