Adams Highlanders remain undefeated after win against Stoney Creek Cougars

Rochester Hills, MI — It was a rainy-weather start to the game against Stoney Creek, but the Cougars couldn’t rain on the Highlanders undefeated parade.
Adams received the kick for a touchback to begin at the 20-yard line. Quarterback Parker Picot manages three runs for a first down. This is followed by another Picot yard, Joey Shallow for a gain of seven, and Christian Schomer for gain of three. From the Highlander 41-yard line, Picot goes another 12 for a first and ten advantage. The next series has Marco DiCresce contributing one, Picot for three, and then Griffin Henke breaks an impressive 21-yard run. He is tripped up just before reaching the 20.
A bobbled snap results in a short loss, but Henke gets six up the middle. Picot rolls out to pass, but instead takes off down the field for an exciting 17-yard touchdown run! Rochester Adams 6 – Stoney Creek 0
A bobbled snap on the point-after-attempt results in a Colin Timko run that is short of the goal line. The 12-play, 80-yard TD drive is credited in large part to the offensive line comprised of Alex DeGreick, Finn Tobiczyk, Nick Stokan, Rocco Orsini and Andrew Rolfs. Don’t forget the great blocking downfield by the wide receivers Max Cibor and Will Krol.
After a Timko kick for a touchback, the Cougars start with the ball at their own 25-yard line. The next three runners are met with tackles from Nick Paterra, Henke, Brady Prieskorn and Tait Picot. With a first down at the 37, Stoney Creek gains two yards, with a tackle by Prieskorn. The Cougar run is met in the backfield by Orsini, as DeGrieck assists on the tackle for no gain. A pass interference call against Adams on a third-down attempt gives Stoney Creek first down at the Highlander 46. A team effort from DeGrieck and DiCresce hands a one-yard loss to Stoney, followed by a runner who is crushed in the backfield by Mohammed Murray for a loss of four. The first quarter ends, Adams 6 – Stoney Creek 0.
The second quarter starts with Stoney in third down and 15 position from the Cougar 49-yard line. A QB draw gets six before a tackle from Paterra. Then the D-line collapses the pocket on the fourth-down pass attempt and DeGrieck comes up with a sack for a loss of seven, forcing a turnover on downs.
Adams takes over at the Cougar 48. Picot starts quickly with a big run, breaking tackles to pick up 38 yards. With first and ten from the 10, Picot keeps the ball for a 10-yard TD! Colin Timko’s extra point is good. Rochester Adams 13 – Stoney Creek 0
The Cougars are on offense with 10:51 left in the second quarter. After kicking off, Timko also makes the tackle after a long Cougar return out to the Highlanders 43-yard line. A deep pass is completed down to the 8-yard line, with Shallow on the tackle. With first and goal from the 8, Rochester Adams shows its defensive grit. Orsini, Parker Picot and Schomer all stop short gains. With fourth and goal from the 1-yard line, Schomer and Orsini make a BIG stop, forcing a turnover on downs after a great Highlander goal-line stance.
The Highlanders resume offense deep in their own territory at the 2-yard line. After a three-yard run by Parker Picot, DiCresce explodes off the left side for a gain of 51 thanks to great blocks from Orsini and Krol. With first and ten at the Cougar 44-yard line, Henke explodes up the middle for a 44-yard touchdown run, with great blocking from the O-line and a key downfield block from wide receiver Krol. With 7:41 remaining in the half, the Cougars get the ball at the 20 after a Timko kick for a touchback. Two runs are met with tackles from Paterra, Orsini and Tait Picot. An incomplete pass sees Schomer on the coverage, then a fake punt results in a gain of 17 and a first down. Three runs are tackled by Orsini, DiCresce, Murray, Paterra and Cibor to bring up first down at the 49. DeGrieck shows off a tackle for a loss of one, then Tait Picot gets a tackle for a loss of two. A third-down pass attempt is incomplete with coverage from Cibor and Paterra, and a fourth-down punt goes out of bounds at the 34.
With 1:01 remaining in the half, Paterra takes over at QB with first and ten at the Highlanders 34. Schomer runs to the left side to gain six, and Paterra passes the ball to Schomer who makes a beautiful diving catch for a gain of 32 yards. From the 28, a Paterra pass is complete to Shallow for six yards, and a pass to Prieskorn is just off his fingertips, with a pass interference called against Stoney. From the 11-yard line, Henke runs it in for the touchdown. Timko’s extra point is good. Rochester Adams 27 – Stoney Creek 0
Timko’s squib kick is returned to the 41-yard line, with a tackle by Tate Picot and Josh Vokal. On first down, Stoney completes a pass and runs a hook and ladder. Paterra and Tadan Buck force the receiver out of bounds to end the first half.
The second half starts with Adams kicking off. Timko’s kick is fielded at the 3, tackled by DiCresce. A flag on the play will move the Cougars’ starting position back to the 25-yard line. A Stoney Creek pass is complete for 41 yards, tackled by Schomer. A two-yard gain is stopped by Murray, Henke and DiCresce; then Prieskorn’s tackles gets a one-yard loss. An eight-yard run is stopped by DiCresce and Tait Picot and a fourth-down attempt is stopped by Henke, but called back on a penalty. Repeating the down, an incomplete pass is covered by Tait Picot, and Stoney turns it over on downs.
Highlanders take over with first and ten from the 31. Schomer runs for a five-yard gain, then gets a pass from Paterra for a 61-yard gain! With first and goal at the 8, a penalty against Adams moves them back to the 13. Shallow gains three, then a fumble on second down is recovered by the Cougars in the end zone. The turnover gives Stoney the ball at the 20.
Back on defense, three runs add up to a first down, but tackles are made by DiCresce, Shallow, Cibor and Schomer. From the 30, the Cougars break a long run across midfield and get inside the 40 after a tackle by Henke. Paterra and DiCresce stop the first two runs for a combined eight yards. Schomer and DiCresce get a tackle for a loss of one. A pass is complete to the 4-yard line, with Shallow on the tackle. This ends the third quarter.
To start the fourth quarter, Stoney gets a TD run, but the extra point is no good. Rochester Adams 27 – Stoney Creek 6
Adams takes over with 11:19 left in the game. After the kick goes out of bounds, the Highlanders start at the 35. A Schomer run gains six and a Henke run gains five to bring up first and ten. Schomer gets eight, DiCresce gets one and Henke gets three for a first and ten at the 42. A 14-yard run by Schomer gets another first down; then two more runs by Schomer will take the team to the 16. Paterra’s pass is complete to DiCresce for a 16-yard touchdown! Timko’s extra point is good. Rochester Adams 34 – Stoney Creek 6

An onside kick is recovered by Adams with 5:17 left in the game. Broder Kawa takes over at QB with first and ten from the Highlander 44-yard line. Adams recovers a fumble; DJ Greer runs for one; and a long Damarcus Rouse run is called back for holding. On third and 19 a fumble is recovered and returned for a Stoney TD and extra point. Stoney’s onside kick goes out of bounds and Adams takes over with first and ten from the 50-yard line with three minutes left in the game. Schomer breaks a long run on the left for a 44-yard gain thanks to big blocks by Orsini and Christopher Rivel. With first and goal from the 6, Schomer runs for three, and Henke gets just short of the goal line. With third and inches, DiCresce runs it in for a touchdown! Paxton Battershell’s PAT is blocked. With just 21 seconds remaining, Timko’s kick is returned to the 30-yard line with a tackle by Tate Picot. Hassan Murray makes the final tackle of the game.
