Recap
Apple Valley, MN — On a spectacular day for baseball, the Blaze came roaring out of the gates, as the first 8 batters reached base. Seemed like the Blaze hitters were either getting hit or getting hits. We will take the former of course, but prefer the latter! The 5-run first inning set the tone for the day as the Burnsville boys were really seeing the ball well today - pounding out 13 hits, drawing 2 walks, and getting beaned 6 times!! The Blaze beat the Eagles 11-3 to sweep the season series.
Senior Cole Voss kept the Eagles in check on the hill, seeming to get stronger as the game went on. After Valley answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st, Cole really shut them down. He ended up going 6 2/3 innings, striking out 11 batters on the day, walking only 1, and giving up the 3 runs on 6 hits. Junior Asher Giese made his varsity pitching debut, and threw 1 pitch to retire the last batter of the game.
The first inning carousel started with Giese getting hit on the wrist on an 0-2 pitch, and was driven in by Jackson Kieffer's double to left. Jonah Dawson got beaned, and Jordon Sieben's bunt was so good he reached base to load the bases. DH Ethan Voss ripped a 2-run single, and shortstop Kade Bowar and first baseman Ben Meuser followed with RBI singles to make it 5-0.
The black and gold added 3 more runs in the 3rd, as Ethan Voss and Bowar led off the inning with singles, Meuser was hit by pitch, and Sean Emerson hit a sacrifice fly to center. 2nd baseman Zach LaMotte followed with an RBI single to left. Meuser and LaMotte pulled off the double steal to score Meuser to make it 8-3.
The Blaze hung another crooked number (3) on the Eagles in the 5th as Emerson and Giese walked, followed by a screaming liner to right by Kieffer to score a run. Pinch runner Lucas Trussell stole 2nd base and the throw went into center field to score Giese. Dawson then ripped a liner to left to score Trussell and the final tally of 11-3.
The offense was led by seniors Ethan Voss and Bowar, each going 3 for 4. Voss scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI, and Bowar had a run and an RBI. Kieffer went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, a double, stolen base and a HBP. Kieff also had an outstanding game behind the plate, throwing out 2 runners trying to steal, blocking balls, and calling a great game. Right fielder Dawson was 2 for 4 with a run and RBI, and a HBP. Meuser was 1 for 3 with a run, RBI, HBP and stole home. LaMotte was 1 for 3, with an RBI and stolen base, Sieben was 1 for 4 with a run, Emerson had a run, RBI, walk and HBP, and Giese scored 2 runs on a walk and HBP. There were more hard hit balls in this game than the entire season, or so it seemed.
The Blaze will try and run their win streak to 5 tomorrow on Senior Night vs Rosemount at 4:30 at Alimagnet. The senior players and their parents will be honored after the game in a post-game ceremony. Come on out and join us!!
