Hot match today! 15-3 win over Rosary in Fullerton
Fullerton, CA — The Lions traveled inland today finding desert-like temperatures at the Fullerton Tennis Center. 93 degrees was the air temp, on court temp more! Having grown up in Bakersfield, KOach is used to the dry heat and told the girls to "Get after it, don't take long breaks, basically, 'gitter dun'!" Our duo squads swept all 9 sets played, fashionably; game count 54 to 10. ALL MVPs;
Sophia/Elise, Anna/Kylie, Olivia/Olivia. Kaley Houshmand, another MVP today got a late start at line #1, winning the last 3 games to pull out a 6 - 4victory, then proceeded to win 6 straight games, bageling line #3 and taking a default from Rosary's line #2 player, who had problems with the heat. Senior Juliana Calo played two long sets, winning both 7-5 and 6-4 before dropping a hard fought final set vs Rosary's formidable line #1, 3 - 6. Juliana was awesome! This was the first time she has played 3 full sets in varsity competition!
JSerra needs to close out the season with a win next Monday at OLu, which will be tough, then hope for a wild card from the committee to get into CIF. In a 5- team league, the 3rd place team is not guaranteed a spot in CIF Team play. The final standings after next Monday final day SHOULD be; MAter Dei 8-0 [like we were last year!, SM 6-2, JSerra 4-4, OLu 2-6 and Rosary 0-8.
The Trinity League individual tournament will be hosted by JSerra NEXT wed and thurs; 11 am day 1 and noon day 2, BUT, as of this writing, No Spectators will be allowed.
GO LIONS!
