Garden Grove, CA — The Southlands Lady Eagles Varsity Softball team improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play after defeating league opponent Orangewood Academy 12-5 on Thursday. The Eagles trailed early, giving up three runs in the first inning. They clawed their way back and found themselves trailing in the sixh inning 5-4 when Senior Tori Marvel singled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. Southlands added six runs in the seventh inning to come away with the victory, 12-5. Sophomores Nataly Luna (2 for 4) and Becky Alonso (3 for 4) each had RBI’s on the day. Senior Maya Jenkins also chipped in with an RBI and had a great catch in center field, robbing an Orangewood player of extra bases. The crushing blow came when the Lady Eagles were up 6-5 in the seventh inning and Sophomore, Hailey Rosales, cleared the bases on a hard hit triple in the gap. Freshman Bella Lopez earned the victory on the rubber for the Lady Eagles and improved to 3-1 on the season. Bella had another 10 strikeout performance. Lopez also went 2 for 5 at the plate with an RBI. The Lady Eagles’ next game is a non-league game on Tuesday, April 20 against public school, Loara.
