LaVerne, CA — ...the Mission is not complete. Southlands Christian Athletics' Mission for all of their teams is to win CIF championships with integrity and honor in the Lord’s eyes. Coach Marvel said after the game, "Our first goal is to win league but we understand that we have much work to do still. We approach it one game at a time and focus on being in the moment. One of the greatest pieces of advice I received was during a Sport's Psych class in college with world-known Professor, Ken Ravizza. He said, 'Be where you need to be when you need to be there.' In other words, enjoy each moment. Focus on where you are at and what you should be doing at that moment. I try so hard to teach the mental side of the game to our girls so that the game itself is not so hard." Sophomore, Nataly Luna, shined at the plate to lead the Eagles to victory over Calvary Chapel Downey on Thursday. Luna went 4 for 4 at the dish that included a single in the first inning, followed by two triples and a homerun. Nataly finished with four RBI's (runs batted in) and two runs scored. Rocky Cordova and Frankie Koch also had clutch, timely hits for the Eagles that drove in some much-needed runs early in the game. The Lady Eagles notched four runs in the fifth inning to secure the mercy-rule victory. Nataly Luna (Soph), Becky Alonso (Soph), and Maya Jenkins (Senior) all drove in runs in the frame. The final blow came when Sanchez (#88), pitcher for CC Downey, intentionally walked Bella Lopez to load the bases for Jenkins. Maya smashed a line-drive double down the leftfield line for the final nail. Freshman, Bella Lopez, once again got the start and the win for the Lady Eagles, improving to 6-2 on the season. Lopez allowed seven hits and three runs (2 earned) over five innings, striking out seven. Lopez continues to impress, striking out 58 batters while only issuing 12 walks. The Lady Eagles (6-2 overall, 5-0 in League) take on non-league opponent, United Christian Academy, next week on Thursday. "Powered by Narrative Science and GameChanger Media. Copyright 2021.
