San Juan Capistrano, CA — In the last match of the year for our “C” squad, they teamed with our “B” squad to defeat the visiting Monarchs. No matter the sport, regardless of the team level, it’s always a good day when JSerra beats Mater Dei at anything😀🎾👍 The Lady Lions were down 2-4 after the 1st round and 5-7 going into the 3rd and final round. We had to win 4 of the final 6 sets to tie 9-9 and capture a larger share of the games to break that tie. Kudos to Mia Contreras and Aubrey Gibson who won the final and decisive set 6-2, giving JSerra the win! We had a full team of 19 girls, most of whom got to play 2 full sets this afternoon in this all doubles format. MVP honors go to line 1 and line 4 doubles trios who won 6 sets of tennis, alternating partners and playing twice each. Line # 4 trio MVP’s: Maclaine Murray, Kayla Bright and Nicole Griffith who won all 3 sets with a game differential of 18-6😀 Line #1 trio MVP’s: Natalie Walters, Hayden Gibson and Briana Piermarini winning all 3 sets with a game differential of 18-3. Domination on those 2 lines of play were key factors in this afternoon’s victory. Single set victories by the teams of: Katie Demirbey / Judianne Kunst and Sofia Recupero / Alyssa Allado gave us our other 2 sets. Honorable mention to Maddie Northway, who with both partners Sofia and Alyssa fought back from 1-4 deficits to force 2 tie-breakers, giving us crucial game count.
