Recap
Dubuque, IA — Milwaukee, WI- Coming off of a 70-53 win over Blackburn, the Mount Mary Blue Angel basketball team hosted the Emmaus Eagles on Tuesday evening. On a few occasions it looked as though MMU would pull away for a double digit win, but the Eagles would not go away. A clutch Sanai Ballard three point shot and two Deja Rivers free throws would ice the win for Mount Mary. The Blue Angels defeated Emmaus by a 58-54 score, cementing the first 2-0 start to a season in modern program history.
Mount Mary could not find the range from three for most of the night, (4-25), but with MMU leading 53-52, Sanai Ballard knocked in a three that would put Mount Mary up for good. Ballard led MMU in scoring on the night with 15, she also had two rebounds and two steals.
Deja Rivers came up clutch off the bench for Mount Mary as well, she scored 14 points, and added two rebounds, two steals and two assists. Emmaus played a remarkable fourth quarter, scoring 26 points, and shooting 63% from the floor and three point line. But MMU weathered the storm and held on for a four point win.
Avery Gorn was a significant contributor, giving MMU a lift in the first half and scoring seven points. India Lucas played her usual stellar floor game, with seven points, six rebounds and two steals.
