Grand Rapids, MI — In a highly anticipated matchup, the Caledonia Varsity Hockey team defeated their rivals, Sparta, 6-0 in a dominant performance on home ice. The game saw contributions from several players, with both offense and defense clicking in unison to secure the victory. Goalie Sam Hoag was also outstanding, earning a well-deserved shutout in the process. The action began early as Henry Simon opened the scoring for Caledonia in the first period. Simon’s goal came off a great setup from Caleb Summerhays and Gabe Supuk, giving the team an early 1-0 lead. As the game progressed, Caledonia’s offensive pressure continued to mount. In the second period, Landen Moore extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal assisted by Ty Lewandowski. Just minutes later, Tony Kauffman took matters into his own hands, scoring a shorthanded goal to make it 3-0, unassisted. The third period saw Caledonia pile on more goals.. Kauffman notched his second goal of the game, assisted by Gabe Supuk and Rylan Bultema, pushing the lead to 4-0. Simon then netted his second of the night, with Kauffman and Bultema providing the assists, making it 5-0. Finally, Lewandowski finished off the game with a goal assisted by Landen Moore and Caleb Summerhays, capping the 6-0 win. Hoag was a wall in net, stopping every shot he faced to record the shutout and keep Sparta from breaking through. It was a well-rounded effort from the entire Caledonia team, with the offense clicking on all cylinders and the defense and goaltending ensuring Sparta never found their rhythm.
