San Juan Capistrano, CA — Knowing that we were probably stronger at the onset, we put most of our stronger players in singles, each playing only once - we swept all 9 sets. Kinsley Moore, Dylan Henderson, and Sam McCulloch each defeated their top player on court # 1. Kate Layk, Sydney Shaw, and Gianna Gancar each beat the # 2 player or sub; same for line 3 with Jessica Jenkins, Riley Godber, and Christina Nama. Great efforts by Kate and Jessica who were both behind their entire first sets until winning: 6-4 for Kate and 7-6 for Jessica who forced a tie-breaker. Jessica’s win gave us our 5th win in round 1, so we went into round # 2 w a 5-1 margin - which we stressed in our pre-game chalk talk. Isabella Aftabi and Rowan Johnston opened up w a doubles win at #1, as did Caitlyn Davidson and Arina Wagner at #2. They stepped aside to allow other team members to play twice. Sydney Shaw and Emily Meyer won 1 of 2 sets played in doubles. Because we had 19 players, Mia DeWames and Allie Kraiss got to play 3 times this afternoon, and they were a tie-breaker away from winning all 3 sets! Winning 2 of 3, is worthy of MVP status, well done. Next up: Tuesday, Oct. 8th vs Orange Lutheran.
