Hook-em! Horns celebrate after a score against Temecula
Vista, CA — The Vista Longhorns, winners of three consecutive games and four out of the last five, defeated the Temecula Grizzly Bears 34-8 on Saturday afternoon.
The Horns' offense scored on five successive drives of 55, 70, 47, 38, and 71, making the game unreachable by the middle of the 3rd quarter. The Longhorns offense amassed over 250 rushing yards and completed 4 out of 7 passes, resulting into 5 touchdowns and 3 extra point conversions.
The scoring spree began after Vista intercepted the Grizzly Bears in the Q1. The Longhorn defender executed a remarkable play, contesting a ball thrown low and away by the Temecula quarterback. The turnover awarded the Horns with excellent field position to start the scoring barrage.
That play encapsulates the Longhorn defensive philosophy this season. Make Plays, Not Excuses!
The Longhorn defense continued its impressive performance this season, limiting the Grizzly Bears to a second-quarter touchdown. During the scoring play, the Temecula offense appeared to benefit from an uncalled holding penalty that would have annulled the touchdown.
Apart from that single score, the Horns' defense perplexed Temecula throughout the afternoon with an array of blitz packages, bewildering the inexperienced Grizzly Bear team.
Looking forward, the Longhorns are hopeful for a playoff berth, having fought their way back into contention with five weeks of consistent and spirited play.
They currently rank 18th in a conference of 43 teams, but their actual standing is closer to 12th or 13th when excluding teams classified as "National Track."
Impressive for a young team still grasping the intricacies of the game and, more importantly, discovering their own potential week-in and week-out.
At the time of this report, the playoff matchups remain undecided.
Yet, no matter the opponent, this youthful Longhorn squad is sure to be prepared; and ready to give whoever they play hell.
