Recap
Out numbered but not out classed.
Fountain Valley, CA — Very proud of how our ladies - the GOLD Squad - represented themselves and JSerra Catholic High School this afternoon. They competed hard, were great sports and were very cordial with the Fountain Valley players. It’s important for us coaches to have the girls present themselves well at the public schools and you all rocked it today - so thank you!
Despite the loss, there was some good wins and improved tennis on every court. Thank you Lily Kitcher, Savannah Parrish, and Aubrey Francisco who all stepped up to play singles (again for Lily and Aubrey). The Fountain Valley girls had some killer forehands, however, Lily and Aubrey each picked up 1 hard-earned set each. These girls played 3 full sets of singles today, usually only play 2 sets of doubles - great efforts.
Kudos and MVP honors to Brielle Cobb and Eya Kane who won the 2 straight sets together in rounds 2 and 3: 6-0 and 6-1. Well done. Ruthie Manasseh played well in round 1 with Eya before going to sing the National Anthem at the football game!
Last, but certainly not least, MVP honors to the dynamic duo of Josie Criger and Francesca Gajarsa who won 3 straight sets today: 6-4, 6-2, 6-0. Outstanding play this afternoon.
Our #2 “trio” / doubles team, Eva Daoud, Grace Helfer and Ella Dietrich had a tougher time, coming close in a first round tie-breaker, but playing the longest of the afternoon with some long sets.
Parents and fan support was great, thank you for your support. And to the Gajarsa family for the over-the-top snacks which we shared with the host girls.
Next up: Gold Squad back in action tomorrow at Aliso Niguel, 8:30 warmup.
