Garden Grove, CA — Article courtesy of Daryl Bogard Los Amigos broke open a one-score game in the 4th quarter with three late touchdowns to top University at Garden Grove High School. The Trojans had seven key players sidelined during the game due to an assortment of injuries. The Lobos had 347 yards on the ground primarily behind running backs Isaac Galindo (two scores) and Raul Cruz. Cruz also scored on a 75-yard screen pass in the 2nd quarter which was the only pass reception for the Lobos, who attempted 10 passes. On defense Cruz recorded two sacks and a tackle for loss while also recovering a fumble. University passed for 206 yards (146 from Justin Tribble) and reached the red zone four times, scoring just once, a 5-yard Tribble to Geoff Soriano touchdown strike. Carl Oldham passed the century mark again with 8 catches for 144 yards including a 51-yard scoring pass from Dylan Elmer. For the second straight game, Uni passed for over 209 yards with Tribble and Elmer each throwing for a touchdown. On the ground Tribble ran for 36 yards on 15 carries, including six first downs and four carries of 11+ yards. Damari Carter carried seven times for 34 yards while Jacob Najar netted 13 yards on four runs. In addition to Oldham and Soriano, four other Trojans caught passes: Jake Rabold two for 18 yards, Cruz McMullens two for 12, Lucca Clouthier one for 19 and Marco Pablo Tirado one for eight. Oldham returned three kickoffs for 65 yards and two punts for 15 yards giving him 224 all-purpose yards, the second straight game with him passing the double century mark. Rabold also returned two kicks for 38 yards and Najar one for 15. Rabold punted twice for 69 yards, including one for 46 yards and kicked off once for 59 yards. Alex Yousef also kicked off twice for 95 yards. Preliminary analysis of defensive stats yielded the following. Four Trojans recorded five tackles each: Oldham, Maxson Encheff, Michael Gasper and Adham Osman. Osman appeared two have a pair of sacks. McMullens had four tackles and a tackle for loss. Jakhi Tribble recorded four tackles. Three Uni defenders had three tackles: Najar, Diego Sosa and Genco Keke. Lucas Thune also had a resounding sack. Tirado swatted a pass, Pierce Fournier defended a pass and it looked like Zion Barreto blocked an extra point try. Uni controlled the ball for 27 minutes of the 48, but just over two minutes in the fourth quarter. The Trojans converted five of 12 third down attempts and one fourth down attempt on four tries. The Lobos were 2-6 on third and 0-2 on fourth while scoring 3-4 times in the red zone. Los Amigos improved to 3-0 while the Trojans fell to 0-2. Uni was victimized by three turnovers.
