Huntington Beach, CA — Fore shadowing! This picture was taken before the match; fortunately, we were this happy afterwards too! The totally revamped Lions traveled to the twins' (Kirk and Keith's) old stomping grounds same courts they competed on and earned twin victories for JV and Varsity 11 - 7. Huntington Beach has 12 courts, so we bussed 35 student-athletes to home of the Oilers for our season opener. Interestingly, this was their 5th match. Revamped? We only lost one senior starter from2023. KOach was able to rotate 12 players in today, including 4 freshmen, who accounted for 7 of our 11 points! Freshmen who added 2 sets each to the tally were: Juliana Johnson, Brookelyn Garcia, and Milana Leffler. KOach notes: "HB is a tough venue. The beach is just down the street and the wind whips right through these courts. The newbies found the going tough and didn't acquire their sea legs until the second round. They were able to finish out the next two rounds by sweeping 4 of 6 sets in both. This was a good win today as Huntington beat us in the opener last year 10-8 and again in round 2 of CIF by identical score. The Lions host the Dolphins tomorrow at home right after school, JV travels to Dana. Great start to a great season!!! GO LIONS !!!
