Cocoa, FL — The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team picked up a Citrus Conference victory Wednesday in the home opener.
The No. 18-ranked Titans defeated Polk State College 25-20, 25-16, 25-17 in a match shown live on WEFS-TV.
Eastern Florida State College scored the first four points and led throughout the first set, taking a 1-0 lead with the 25-20 win.
The second set saw Polk State College keep things close early, but Lesmary Raffucci had a couple of big kills to extend the Titans lead and then sophomore Dominae Jordan had three kills to ensure the Titans would take a 2-0 lead. Eastern Florida State College picked up the 25-16 win and headed to the third set looking for the sweep.
Polk State College led by as much as four points early in the third set, but Libby Ashline had an ace and served four straight points to tie things up, 9-9. It would remain close for the next few points but tied 12-12 the Titans would go on a 4-0 run and roll to a 25-17 win in the third set.
Jordan finished with a match-high 11 kills while Raffucci had eight kills and 14 digs in the match. Sophomore libero Sarah Henalut had 21 digs while setter Sophia Iglesias had 23 assists in the win.
It is the first conference win for the Titans this season and they are now 10-6 overall and 1-2 in the Citrus Conference. Eastern Florida State College snapped a three-match losing streak to the Eagles with the straight sets win.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Daytona State College on Saturday afternoon for a conference match beginning at 2 p.m.
