McDonald, PA — South Fayette returns back to home for a set of two games to open up Allegheny Six Conference play. The Lions (5-0) went into hostile territory last week with a 27-14 win over the Belle Vernon Leopards. The story of the first half was Coach Fronk and the defense. The defense held the Belle Vernon offense to a shut out through 47 minutes of the game with Belle Vernon scoring on an interception return and late in the game when it was out of reach. The front seven held Belle Vernon to 82 yards rushing on 32 attempts including holding the QB to 4 yards rushing on 16 carries - an emphasis for the defense. Drew Welhorsky continues to shine on offense with 121 yards rushing on 16 carries and a TD. Passing he hit 9 different receivers totalling 192 yards passing. Tyson Wright continues to add to the score board with his third receiving TD of the year. Getting on the board for the first time in his career was freshman Evan Earley. Evan opened up the scoring with a 15 yard receiving TD in the first quarter. The Lions now open up conference play with a homecoming game versus the Baldwin Highlanders. The Allegheny Six Conference is boasting a stellar record through five weeks, with three other teams joining the Lions with an undefeated record. The Highlanders (0-5) lost their non-conference tilt versus Elizabeth Forward in week four.
