Medford, OR — The Lady Challengers maintained possession of the ball nearly the entire game against the Trojans. While the score may not reflect the domination the Challengers had against Douglas, the possession says a different story. Cascade made good passes through the mid-field to get a good pulse on how the Trojans would be playing defensively. The attack from the Challengers started off well with a shot on target from Angelica Arce in the 6th minute. After a challenge from Douglas in their defensive third, turned a corner kick for the Challengers. The service in from Mae Ferriera off that corner into a goal after the ball ricocheted off the hip of the Trojans goalie, which made it a 1-0 game. The Lady Challengers continued the attack with Jordynn Jones juking three Douglas players in the goal box for a great shot to make the game 2-0 in the 19th minute. After a foul committed on one of the Cascade players, Mae Ferriera took the free kick in the 34th minute and netted the ball in the upper right corner to bring the score to 3-0. There was great team effort for the remainder of the game to maintain possession for the Challengers. Players to highlight for this game were: Sophomore Gertie Wine for making a great carry up the field as a forward; Senior Katherina Gray for continuing great communication with her teammates; Lindsey Hutcheson for working to keep possession of the ball and for stepping into the goalkeeper role for the second half; and both Senior Ryann DeBoer and Junior Vivian Fortier for their defensive aggression. The Lady Challengers take on the Glide Wildcats on the road on Tuesday September 24th at 4:00pm.
