Coquille, OR — Cascade battled with Coquille-Myrtle Point until the very end of the game. The possession started off strong with the Lady Challengers as Emma Coats fired a shot in the 7th minute of the game for a 1-0 lead. Sienna Wilcox got off two back to back shots that were saved by the Coquille keeper. Angelica Arce also got off a good shot that was on target but saved by the goalkeeper. Coquille answered back near the end of the first half which tied the game at 1-1. Cascade didn't let Coquille keep the tie for long as Jordynn Jones found the back of the net in the 39th minute for the Challenger lead going into halftime. The second half was a battle of possession as both teams had several goal attempts, including Jordynn Jones, Emma Coats, Angelica Arce, and Lindsey Hutcheson. Angelica Arce had a great through ball passed to her for a goal, but was overturned by an offsides call by the referee. Coquille tied the game again in the 70th minute. The Challengers fought to net another goal, but were unsuccessful in the end. The two plays of the game go to senior goalkeeper, Josie Scaglione, for stopping not just one, but two penalty kicks. Both of the penalty kicks were the result of a handball in the box. One of those handballs was disputed by the Lady Challengers team captains, but the call was upheld. Scaglione logged 17 saves during yesterday's game. The Lady Challengers will face Douglas at home this Thursday, 9/19, at Lithia & Driveway field at 4:00pm.
