Santa Ana, CA — Sophomore running back William Saucedo had his best game of the young season while the SAC defense stood their ground to help the Santa Ana College Football team earn a 27-24 win over the Glendale Vaqueros (1-1) in week three. The standout out of Yorba Linda had his number called 30 times, which helped him record a season high 111 yards and two touchdowns. With veterans Malachi Pierce and Owen Smith out due to injury, the Dons (2-1) needed others to step up. Freshman wideout Keyshawn Johnson took advantage of the opportunity, catching a team high four passes with 57 yards while picking up some critical first downs. Fellow freshman tight end Nathan Meek also made his mark in this one as he recorded three catches for 41 yards. Quarterback Nate Bento had another clean game, throwing for 124 yards while rushing for 54 yards. Although the offense did its job when it mattered, the Dons could not have won this game without the play of their defense. SAC forced four turnovers including interceptions by Jesse Vargas and Tanner Fronaberger as well as a strip sack by Mati Armstrong which was returned by Owen Tesch for a game winning touchdown at the 4:00 minute mark in the fourth quarter. In addition, sophomore defensive lineman Oscar Serrano was a force in the middle and recorded a team high seven tackles for the Dons. Jake Bento added six tackles of his own while Armstong and Josef Oborny collected five tackles each and combined for a sack and a half and a pass breakup.
