Rochester, MI — Game Day Summary - by Jeremy Watters Rochester Adams hosted the Romeo Bulldogs for their home opener to kick off the 24’ season. The Romeo Bulldogs would have been better off missing the bus to start their season after making the trip to Highlander territory. The game started with a stout 3 and out for Romeo and a recovered blocked punt for a safety putting the Highlander’s on the board 2-0. The ensuing kick off Schroeder was firing on all cylinders as he had an explosive run behind a big push from the offensive line opening the door for Watters to score and Elder to hammer down the first of many extra points for the day. The defense was up to the task causing another 3 and out where Hittle showcased some of his speed picking up big gains on the return. Castle then proceeded to run over the Bulldogs dropping the hammer and putting another 6 on the board. Elder converted on another PAT and the Highlanders were already rolling 16-0. Romeo had a small glimpse of hope which came from an air assault scoring with 3 minutes left in the second quarter. Adams wasn’t going in to halftime on that note and Hittle took a jet sweep to the house making it 22-6 with less than a minute left in the second quarter. The second half only got worse for the Bulldogs as the highlanders opened up their first drive of the second half with a TD run by Watters leaving the Bulldogs behind wondering why they even boarded the bus on this day. Elder converted on the PAT and it was quickly 29-6. The Highlanders weren’t letting up and after shutting down Romeo deep in their own territory they came up big with a blocked punt on 4th down. The next play Watters got behind his front line and steam rolled his way into the end zone for another Highlanders TD and Elders converted on another PAT making it 36-6. Romeo went back to the air despite some big plays by Hittle, Chase and Castle and put one more in the end zone making it 36-12. Adam’s returned the favor letting Romeo know they weren’t done and Watters put another 6 on the board behind that monstrous front line with Elder converting another PAT making it 43-12. The Highlanders sent the puppies packing after that and walked off the field with a great start to the 24’ season winning 43-12.
