Anaheim, CA — Seniors Justin Tribble and Carl Oldham led University (4-6, 1-4) to a 35-14 victory over Katella (1-9, 0-5) Friday night at historic Glover Stadium. In the final night of Omicron League play, Tribble completed 11 of 14 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns and a gaudy 159.2 MaxPreps QB rating. Tribble’s four scoring strikes is likely tied for third most touchdown passes by a Trojan in one game. Many other UHS quarterbacks have done this for Uni in the MaxPreps era, so he is in good company. Oldham caught seven of those passes for 142 yards for three scores. It was his third 140+ yard receiving game this season. Oldham wrote his way into the Uni record book as well in his outstanding senior season. His 810 receiving yards is second all-time behind Blaine Anderson’s 837 yards in 2022. For a moment it look like Oldham broke the record with a 32-yard end zone grab, but the play was nullified due to offensive pass interference. Oldham’s 50 receptions this season is second all-time to Tyler Stanek’s 53 catches in the 2011 season. Carl’s three TD receptions in one game likely ties him for third all-time. Oldham had 158 all-purpose yards in the contest. Jake Rabold also caught a 26-yard touchdown pass while Senior Damari Carter carried the ball 12 times for 100 yards and caught two passes for 25 yards. Marco Pablo Tirado caught a pass for 8 yards. Tribble also had four yards rushing on four carries giving him 205 yards of total offense. Katella put on quite an offensive show out gaining the Trojans, 313 yards to 292 and achieving more first downs (17 to 14) including four successful fourth down conversions. Interestingly, the Knights had 63 plays on offense compared to just 35 for the Trojans. The Knights did commit two turnovers, one a costly 18-yard scoop and score by Adham Osman 22 seconds before halftime giving University a 28-6 halftime lead. Katella was led by athlete Isaac Sanchez who accounted for 191 all-purpose yards (89 rushing including a touchdown, 73 receiving and 27 passing). Adam Haqi ran the ball 23 times for 118 yards and one touchdown. Uni was busy on defense. Jacob Najar participated in nine tackles, including three for loss (which included one sack) and defended one pass. Cruz McMullens also had nine tackles and one pass defended. It appears McMullens was the team’s leading tackler this season, just edging out Oldham. Pierce Fournier added eight tackles and a TFL. A trio of Trojans each notched half a dozen tackles: Oldham, Senior Borna Sharafkhanian and Diego Sosa. Oldham had an interception while Sharafkhanian had a TFL and blocked an extra point. Senior captain Geoff Soriano had five tackles and defended a pass. Carter had the same line and added a TFL. Maxson Encheff had four tackles and a TFL. Tribble was busy on defense as well with three tackles and three passes defended. Lucca Clouthier added three tackles, forced a fumble and defended a pass. Lucas Thune also had three tackles. Rabold kicked five extra points, had two deep kickoffs and punted three times (two over forty yards) averaging 37 yards putting one inside the 20-yard line. He also found time to make two tackles. This was also the last game for a dozen seniors. In addition to the five mentioned above, we honor Jack Jordan, Pierre Vong (one tackle), Kevin Jin, Alex Pai, Giovanni Vazquez and Julian Centeno who played their last game. Michael Gasper was injured the game before and unable to play. Article courtesy of Daryl Bogard
