Schuylkill Valley cashes in early, picks up victory over Pequea Valley
Schuylkill Valley 33, Pequea Valley 0
Kinzers, PA — Schuylkill Valley scored three touchdowns in the first 9:07 of the game Friday night to put away Pequea Valley early on its way to a 33-0 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Five football victory.
The Braves (0-2 L-L, 2-3 overall) had negative yardage and no first downs on its first three drives including two lost fumbles, one of which was returned by Dillon Lackner for a 31-yard touchdown. Lackner also scored two touchdowns on passes (12,7) from Schuylkill Valley quarterback Logan Nawrocki.
“When you start off a game like that making mistakes and you give up some early touchdowns (it’s tough),” Pequea Valley coach Mike Choi said. “Our offense is a Wing-T offense and we aren’t built to score every two minutes. It’s going to take us some time to cultivate drives. It’s tough to come back.”
Choi did like what he saw after the initial Schuylkill Valley outburst. The Braves went on a 19-play drive that gained 83 yards but fell short on 4th-and-goal. The Braves moved the ball on the following series and got into the Panthers’ (2-0, 3-2) red zone but the drive ended with another turnover on downs.

“At that point it’s 20 to nothing and we are down there to the 4-yard line and a big procedure call hurt us there,” Choi said. “When we get closer to the end zone it really is a matter of focus.”
Cooper Hohenadel ran for 75 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers to lead all rushers. Drew Tibbins had 49 yards on the ground and added three receptions for 23 yards.

Key statistic
The second half was a struggle for the Braves only amassing 42 yards and two first downs in the half.
Quotable
“That drive is exactly what I wanted to see this week, that 19-play drive. Last week we got whitewashed. Those kids at Berks Catholic, give them credit, really put it to us. We got into a phase where we couldn’t even run our offense because we were doubting and confused. We worked really hard to get back to the basics. To have a 19-play drive against a quality team like that is a point of pride. I told the kids I’m not pessimistic about the season. In fact, I am very optimistic and pleased with the effort they gave. Now it’s just about getting a young team to do that throughout a game.”
