That’s over though, that’s in the past, dead and buried.” Quarterback Logan Nawrocki led the Panthers’ attack, completing 14-for-21 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns to help Schuylkill Valley (1-1) earn the win after an early seven-point deficit. And despite being outscored 13-0 in the fourth quarter, Schuylkill Valley held on for the victory after it recovered an onside kick with 3:52 left in the game and ran out the clock. The Panthers led 24-14 at the half and led by 17 at one point. “What our kids need to do is learn how to finish and (tonight) we couldn’t,” Harbach said. “We were up 17 points. We can’t do that. We have to get more pressure on the quarterback.” Daniel Boone junior Haydn Moyer got the Blazers (0-2) off to a strong start in the first quarter after a fumbled snap on third and six from the Schuylkill Valley 44 went over his head and back into Daniel Boone territory. Moyer recovered the fumble and launched a 44-yard bomb to Blake Elliott for the game’s opening score with 9:09 remaining in the first quarter. He’s a very coachable kid and he played real well tonight.” Daniel Boone's Haydn Moyer picks up yardage on a quarterback keeper against Schuylkill Valley on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, in Leesport. Daniel Boone ended the game with four turnovers. “For the game as a whole, we as Daniel Boone, need to stop playing against Daniel Boone at some point,” Okuniewski said. “I don’t know how many penalties we had but I know it was a lot. The poor snaps, the lack of execution, it’s two weeks in a row that I felt like, and no disrespect to Schuylkill Valley, they’re a good football program and Coach Harbach is great football coach, but I want our program to put a team on the field that we play the other team and we stop playing ourselves.” Daniel Boone quarterback Haydn Moyer gets the play on the sidelines against Schuylkill Valley on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, in Leesport. He threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Lackner while under pressure to complete an 8-play, 62-yard drive. Nawrocki avoided the pass rush on several plays during the drive, including a first and 15 that he was forced at least 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage before connecting with Kowen Gerner for an 18-yard pass for a first down. It is Nawrocki’s third year as the starter and he’s developed strong connections with his offensive weapons. “They’ve played together for a long time,” Harbach said. “They know each other, they know each other’s habits, and they know each other’s routes and all kind of stuff that that receivers and quarterbacks do well together. So it’s a good win for us.” A turnover cost the Blazers on their next possession, as Daniel Boone went for a fake punt pass on fourth and 14 at their own 47 and the pass by Dominic Stoudt was intercepted by Brandon Pyle. After Reese Wamsher missed a 34-yard field goal midway through the third, Moyer led Daniel Boone on a 10-play touchdown-scoring drive that started at their own 20. Moyer completed the drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, and had three consecutive deep passes of 41, 11 and 24 yards to set up the 1-yard rushing score that made it 31-21 with just over 11 minutes to go in the game. Daniel Boone picked up three first downs before penalties forced the Blazers into a fourth and 18 situation at their own 44. Moyer had a solid run on the play but could not pick up the first down, giving the ball back to the Panthers with six minutes to go. Moments later on his next chance with the football, Moyer found Max Heffner wide open deep over the middle for a 57-yard touchdown pass for Daniel Boone. The ensuing extra point attempt was blocked and the Blazers trailed 31-27 with 3:43 to go. “(Experience), especially at the end of the game (played a factor),” Nawrocki said. “The clock is going and we’re good.” Spotts led Schuylkill Valley in receiving with six catches for 102 yards and Logan Cammauf led the Panthers on the ground with eight carries for 36 yards. Daniel Boone outgained Schuylkill Valley 412 to 238 yards of total offense. “Obviously we pushed that week behind us and didn’t let it get to us,” Nawrocki said. “Even though it was a hot week we still practiced and prepared for them and that’s what we’re going to do next week.” Schuylkill Valley quarterback Logan Nawrocki rolls out against Daniel Boone on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, in Leesport.
