Recap
San Juan Capistrano, CA — The boys kept their Miami dreams alive with a resounding home victory over the Calabasas Coyotes, 16-3. This was a 2nd round event as the Lions earned a 1st round buy via a well-earned #2 seeding.
KOach notes, "I thought we came out a little flat in doubles, we were down on all 3 courts, but I wasn't sure if we were down breaks or on serve. Normally, I hang out by the dubs, but my heart needed a break, so I moseyed down to the singles courts to make sure we were ok there, and we were. Riley, Brady and Cole were all up 3-1. By the time I got back down to the double's courts, we had flipped the script in all 3 sets, and rolled to an unbelievable 6-0 lead!"
The Lions didn't let up there, sweeping 5 of the 6 sets in the second round, finishing up with a 4-2 third round.
A first-round singles victory by Cole was the big knockout punch to the Coyotes because they knew the Lions had a 3-spot right away. This player was a VERY formidable, counter puncher who Cole simply outmaneuvered. Cole is an amazing athlete and competitor; he is the key. Mikey/Alex and Cade/Marco came back from their early deficits while Mike Geffrey/ Connor were never really in trouble as neither Coyote could handle his underhand serve.
With a 11-1 lead and the win in their pocket, both coaches emptied the benches and the subs went at it. Round three was very relaxing and entertaining. Brady, who is playing his best tennis ever scored a big win at line 1 for his sweep. Also winning in the third round were to JV players we moved up for the playoffs; HB Warner and Kayden Kral. HB teamed up with Charlie for a win over Calabasas' legit #1 team while Kayden took out the player in the 2nd spot.
HUGE highlight of the day was Brady's tweener lob winner in round two! Had this been on film, it definitely would have been a JESPY nomination!!! The crowd went nuts!
KOach again, "I can't tell you how much we appreciate our parents and fellow students who continually spend their afternoons watching a bunch of boys chase a little round ball around a piece of concrete! "
The Lions traverse the freeways Monday to Los Osos in Rancho Cucamonga for an elite eight battle!
GO LIONS !!!!
