Sacramento, CA — On Wednesday, 4/3 the Vanden JV Vikings played a non-league game against Leroy Greene Academy (Sacramento). The game was played at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, the home of the Sacramento Rivercats. The Vikings turned the Lions into prey, winning the game 10-0. The game was called in the 6th inning due to the mercy rule. The win improves Vanden’s record to 8-5 overall, and 4-2 in MEL play.
The Vikings pitching staff collectively allowed only 2 hits and struck out 8 batters. The four pitchers combined for 6 shutout innings: Ryan Watson (2IP, 4K, 1BB), Caiden Hitchcock (1IP, 2K, 2BB), Anthony Nelson (2IP, 1 hit, 2K, 3BB) & Dylan Pineda (1IP, 1 hit).
Vanden was sparked on offense by Mateo Gonzalez, who delivered a 2-out, 2 RBI single to put the home team on the scoreboard in the 1st inning. They would end up tallying 5 runs total in the inning, highlighted by a RBI double by Tim Dumandan and a RBI single by Nolan Moore Brewer. Brewer would finish the game 2 for 2 with a double, 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored.
The Vikings return to action on Monday, 4/8 when they visit the Royals at Armijo High School for MEL gameplay.
